Finals Week Prayer Fall 2010

Dear Heavenly Father, Lord God Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth, Creator of all good things, Lord of our lives, Forgiver of our sins, Lover of our soul.

We walk into this finals week with a lot of stuff going on.  Our lives are not totally perfect.  Our heads are not always in the right place.  We haven’t done everything we could have done to prepare for this time.  We haven’t worked as hard as we should have.  We have things in our lives besides academics that are vying for our attention.  Our friends and family need us.  Our jobs aren’t going as well as we think they should.  Money is an issue.  We don’t feel as well as we could.  We are sick or heart sick or tired or distracted or exhausted.  We have a lot going on.  This is the way we walk into one of the hardest weeks of our lives.

Lord, please be with us during this week.  Help us to concentrate on our studies.  Help us to be able to focus on the things we need to focus on.  Give us the ability to manage our time well.  Give us the ability to put aside the unimportant distractions.  Give us understanding.  Help us to grasp the material we are studying.  Help us to understand things quickly.  Help us to be able to organize thoughts in our memories in a way that makes them retrievable when it is exam time.  Give us success.  Relieve our anxiety during the tests.  Help how we feel not to get in the way of us accurately reproducing what we know.

Lord, please direct those things that are not completely under our control.  Keep us healthy.  Keep our families and friends calm during this time.  Please remove many of the outside distractions so that we can focus on our studies.  Limit the amount of crises that happen this week.  Help the exams to be a fair assessment of what was taught in the class.  Help us to study the right material and not waste time on learning things we are not responsible to know.

Lord, please be with our mindset.  Help us to realize your love for us.  Help us to deeply know that your love for us is not dependent upon our performance.  Help us to truly know that the God of the Universe specifically love us no matter what grades we get this term.  Let that not be an excuse for laziness but allows us to thrive in that love in a way that free us to succeed.

Lord, I’m reminded of Isaiah 43: 1 – 3

1 But now, this is what the LORD says—
he who created you, Jacob,
he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
3 For I am the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;

This passage does not promise we will be free from water or fire (troubles) but that God will be with us through them.  Lord, we ask you to keep your promise.

In the strong and powerful name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
