Being Changed by Christ through His Presence in Prayer

9780801009853“Prayerless people are strangers to anything like holiness of heart and cleanness of heart…  Prayer creates an interest in consecration, then prayer brings one into a state of heart where consecration is a subject of delight, bringing joy of heart, satisfaction of soul, contentment of spirit.  The consecrated soul is the happiest soul.  There is no friction whatever between him who is fully given over to God and God’s will.  There is perfect harmony between the will of such a man and God, and his will.  And the two wills being in perfect accord, this brings rest of soul, absence of friction and the presence of perfect peace.”  E.M. Bounds The Complete Works of E.M. Bounds on Prayer:  The Essentials of Prayer – Prayer and Consecration p.  123.

Often we warn teenagers about the company they keep.  We worry about the presence negative influences in other’s lives.  There is a colloquial saying that, “If you lie down with the dogs, you will get up with fleas.”  But that influence works the other way too.  There is such a thing as positive peer pressure.  Mentoring relationships are a buzz word within Christian communities.  There are some people in this world that just inspire us to become better.  There are some people in this world that being around them make us better and make us want to become better.  Have you ever looked back at your life and realized that just being friends with someone made you a better person?

If we can have this kind of effect on each other just imagine what spending time with the God of the Universe through prayer could do to us?  God is always available to us through prayer.  Let’s commit to spending time with God in prayer.  I guarantee that it will change your life.
