God’s Word Is Truth

35 Days Toward PEACE – Week 2 Bible Reading (Day 9)

The goal of this devotional is to develop the spiritual disciplines and habits over the next 35 days that will allow the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives for the better.  Is that what you want?  Are you willing to join me in the journey?

As we continue on our journey in developing the  spiritual disciplines that will allow the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives we will continue to make prayer a habit.  Please take a moment using what we have developed last week and talk to God.

  1. Praise God for who He is.
  2. Ask God to forgive us of our sins.
  3. Ask God to bless us.
  4. Ask God to bless others.
  5. Thank God for the good things He has done for us.

As we grow closer to God we are going to maintain the conversation, but conversations work in both directions.  Last week we focused completely on us talking to God through prayer.  This week we are going to work on hearing from God.  Sometimes we will receive messages from God in ours prayers and our consciousness   Realizations that God wants to say something specific to us.  Although, this is a valid way that the God of the universe may on occasion choose to communicate with us it is not God’s chosen normal way.  God’s voice is most often heard through the Bible.  Reading the Bible is how we can hear God.  Because this is how we hear God most often, most effectively and most definitively, we need to intentionally develop the habit of reading the Bible regularly.

John 17:17 (NIV)  Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

The verse above is a quote of Jesus as he is praying to God the Father.  Jesus claims that the word of God is truth.  Jesus proved that his claims were valid through his life, death and resurrection.  If you want to know what is truth then study the word of god as revealed through the Bible.  Jesus also says that this word is the way God will sanctify us.  You might not be familiar with the word sanctify.  It means to be set apart and prepared for use in holy purposes.  Jesus is saying and asking God to make us better through His truth which is His word.  Making the Bible a regular part of your life will help you to understand God’s truth and will be the avenue through which God makes you into a better and holier person.  That sound like what we wanted when we started this journey.  We are looking for the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives.  Making God’s word a consistent part of our lives is a big step in that direction.
