Scripture Is Vital for Changing Our Hearts

35 Days Toward PEACE – Week 2 Bible Reading (Day 12)

The goal of this devotional is to develop the spiritual disciplines and habits over the next 35 days that will allow the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives for the better.  Is that what you want?  Are you willing to join me in the journey?

As we continue on our journey in developing the  spiritual disciplines that will allow the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives we will continue to make prayer a habit.  Please take a moment using what we have developed last week and talk to God.

  1. Praise God for who He is.
  2. Ask God to forgive us of our sins.
  3. Ask God to bless us.
  4. Ask God to bless others.
  5. Thank God for the good things He has done for us.

As we grow closer to God we are going to maintain the conversation, but conversations work in both directions.  Last week we focused completely on us talking to God through prayer.  This week we are going to work on hearing from God.    Reading the Bible is how we can hear God.  Because this is how we hear God most often, most effectively and most definitively, we need to intentionally develop the habit of reading the Bible regularly.

2 Timothy 3:14 – 17 (NIV) But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Paul, a Pastor and Missionary, is writing a young pastor named Timothy advice in his ministry.  He says that Scripture will make us wise for salvation.  That it is “God-breathed” or as we sometimes call it – inspired.  And that Scripture is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.  Through Scripture we can be equipped to do the good things that God wants us to do.  As we want to have our lives changed for the better, it is clear that a regular connection with the Bible will be vital in the process.  The Bible is crucial for the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives.  So let us be diligent in developing the habit of reading the Bible daily as a spiritual discipline.
