Scripture Is Powerful to Change Us

35 Days Toward PEACE – Week 2 Bible Reading (Day 13)

The goal of this devotional is to develop the spiritual disciplines and habits over the next 35 days that will allow the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives for the better.  Is that what you want?  Are you willing to join me in the journey?

As we continue on our journey in developing the  spiritual disciplines that will allow the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives we will continue to make prayer a habit.  Please take a moment using what we have developed last week and talk to God.

  1. Praise God for who He is.
  2. Ask God to forgive us of our sins.
  3. Ask God to bless us.
  4. Ask God to bless others.
  5. Thank God for the good things He has done for us.

As we grow closer to God we are going to maintain the conversation, but conversations work in both directions.  Last week we focused completely on us talking to God through prayer.  This week we are going to work on hearing from God.    Reading the Bible is how we can hear God.  Because this is how we hear God most often, most effectively and most definitively, we need to intentionally develop the habit of reading the Bible regularly.

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

As we look to change and be changed by our relationship with Jesus Christ, the Word of the Lord will be an effective tool in discovering those parts of us that need to be changed.  It will highlight the area of our lives that do not meet God’s standards.  It will bring set before an image of what we should be like.  It will motivate us to move forward in our journey.  The word of God will be extremely effective in changing us.  Have you ever had a friend that made you better and/or want to be better just by being around you?  You become like those you hang out with.  This can be a very good thing as we look to consistently encounter the God of the universe by spending time with Him through His Word.

The process has begun.  We are slowly building the habits that will change us.  Thirteen days down and tomorrow is two whole weeks!
