Worship God the Creator

35 Days Toward PEACE – Week 3 Worship (Day 15)

The goal of this devotional is to develop the spiritual disciplines and habits over the next 35 days that will allow the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives for the better.  Is that what you want?  Are you willing to join me in the journey?

As we continue to develop our daily conversation with God we are going to spend this week talking about worship as a daily practice.  A friend of mine (Michael “Hair” Kelley) once defined worship as “letting God know that we know who He is.”  Worship should be something that describes our every day and every moment.  We should live our lives in the proper attitude toward God which is worship but having a daily time to remind ourselves of that attitude is essential for it to change from the way we should be to the way we are.  Worship can be divided into to larger categories.  Praising God for who He is and thanking God for what He has done.

For the next seven days we are going to look at verse from the Bible that suggest something we should praise God for.  These passages may start to get a little bit longer than the verses we’ve been looking at up to this point.  As we develop the habit of our daily conversation with God the extent and depth of our conversation should develop as well.  Then, since this is an online devotional, I am going to take advantage of the resources available to us and include a YouTube clip of a worship song or poem. If you know the song feel free to sing along but if you don’t listen and/or read the lyrics as worship to God.  Not knowing your music preference, I have been intentionally ecletic in some of my choices. To end things use the Scripture and video to add to your personal prayer conversation with God.

Genesis 1:1  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Rev. 4:11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

For this moment let’s avoid any controversy between Science and Religion over the Creation story and treat the creation of the universe as the rest of Scripture treats it.  God is greatly to be praised for His power and wisdom that is displayed through the marvelous universe He has created.  Look outside the window or even just at your own body and look at the intricate detail that has gone into the Physics, Chemistry and Biology that makes up existence.  All of this creation has its origins in the mind of God.  And the presence of this universe is because of God’s power.  Take a moment to think about some part of creation that impresses you and praise God for it.

Watch the following YouTube video by professional musicians ThirdDay.  Sing along if you want to but use the words of the song either vocally or mentally to praise God for the wonder He has created.

After reading the verses and watching the video remember this as you approach the Lord of all Creation in prayer.

  1. Praise God for who He is.
  2. Ask God to forgive us of our sins.
  3. Ask God to bless us.
  4. Ask God to bless others.
  5. Thank God for the good things He has done for us.
