Worship God because He Takes Care of Us

35 Days Toward PEACE – Week 3 Worship (Day 18)

The goal of this devotional is to develop the spiritual disciplines and habits over the next 35 days that will allow the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives for the better.  Is that what you want?  Are you willing to join me in the journey?

As we continue to develop our daily conversation with God we are going to spend this week talking about worship as a daily practice.  A friend of mine (Michael “Hair” Kelley) once defined worship as “letting God know that we know who He is.”  Worship should be something that describes our every day and every moment.  We should live our lives in the proper attitude toward God which is worship but having a daily time to remind ourselves of that attitude is essential for it to change from the way we should be to the way we are.  Worship can be divided into to larger categories.  Praising God for who He is and thanking God for what He has done.

For the next seven days we are going to look at verse from the Bible that suggest something we should praise God for.  These passages may start to get a little bit longer than the verses we’ve been looking at up to this point.  As we develop the habit of our daily conversation with God the extent and depth of our conversation should develop as well.  Then, since this is an online devotional, I am going to take advantage of the resources available to us and include a YouTube clip of a worship song or poem. If you know the song feel free to sing along but if you don’t listen and/or read the lyrics as worship to God.  Not knowing your music preference, I have been intentionally ecletic in some of my choices. To end things use the Scripture and video to add to your personal prayer conversation with God.

Today, let’s read one of the most beloved passages of Scripture ever;

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.  You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

God is our provider and our protector.  He takes care of us.  We can rest confidently in God’s love for us.  God is strong enough to supply everything we need.  And He is compassionate enough to make sure we are more than okay.  Worship God with thanks for some of the specific ways He has taken care of you.

Watch the following YouTube video by of the Footprints poem.  Take a moment as the poem is being read to concentrate on how God has helped you through some specific hard times in your life.

After reading the verses and watching the video remember this as you approach the God who takes care of you in prayer.

  1. Praise God for who He is.
  2. Ask God to forgive us of our sins.
  3. Ask God to bless us.
  4. Ask God to bless others.
  5. Thank God for the good things He has done for us.
