Worship God because He Is in Control

35 Days Toward PEACE – Week 3 Worship (Day 20)

The goal of this devotional is to develop the spiritual disciplines and habits over the next 35 days that will allow the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives for the better.  Is that what you want?  Are you willing to join me in the journey?

As we continue to develop our daily conversation with God we are going to spend this week talking about worship as a daily practice.  A friend of mine (Michael “Hair” Kelley) once defined worship as “letting God know that we know who He is.”  Worship should be something that describes our every day and every moment.  We should live our lives in the proper attitude toward God which is worship but having a daily time to remind ourselves of that attitude is essential for it to change from the way we should be to the way we are.  Worship can be divided into to larger categories.  Praising God for who He is and thanking God for what He has done.

For the next seven days we are going to look at verse from the Bible that suggest something we should praise God for.  These passages may start to get a little bit longer than the verses we’ve been looking at up to this point.  As we develop the habit of our daily conversation with God the extent and depth of our conversation should develop as well.  Then, since this is an online devotional, I am going to take advantage of the resources available to us and include a YouTube clip of a worship song or poem. If you know the song feel free to sing along but if you don’t listen and/or read the lyrics as worship to God.  Not knowing your music preference, I have been intentionally ecletic in some of my choices. To end things use the Scripture and video to add to your personal prayer conversation with God.

Rev. 21: 3 – 5

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”   He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

God has a plan for your life and for all of creation.  God is working His plan out in a marvelous and wonderful way.  If I were to interpret the entire book of Revelation I would use on two word:  God Wins!!!  That is awesome.  All things will be set right.  All you pain an suffering will go away.  God is amazing and has an amazing end to your story and to the entire story.  Praise God.

Watch the following YouTube video of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah .  Sing along if you want to but use the words of the song either vocally or mentally to praise God for how He will make everything new.

After reading the verses and watching the video remember this as you approach the God who sets things right in prayer.

  1. Praise God for who He is.
  2. Ask God to forgive us of our sins.
  3. Ask God to bless us.
  4. Ask God to bless others.
  5. Thank God for the good things He has done for us.
