Christ Is our Example

35 Days Toward PEACE – Week 4 Discipleship (Day 22)

The goal of this devotional is to develop the spiritual disciplines and habits over the next 35 days that will allow the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives for the better.  Is that what you want?  Are you willing to join me in the journey?

As we continue to develop our daily conversation with God we are going to spend this week talking about becoming more like Christ.  The “C” in PEACE is fro the Challenge to be like Christ.  Becoming like Christ is process mediated by the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives.  As we open ourselves up to the God’s work in our lives and the Holy Spirit gains more and more access to the whole of who we are, we change.  We become more like Christ.  A daily part of our process should be evaluating where we are as it come to our “Christ-like-ness.”  How are you doing?  what specific part of you are you trying to change to look more like Him?  Over the next seven days we are going to look at Christ, what it means to be “Christ-like,” look at specific things that need to change in us and focus our prayers around those changes.

Philippians 2:5-11 (NIV)
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

In these verses Paul commands those in the Church of Philippi to have the same attitude as Christ.  Specifically our attitude should be like Christ as we model His humility.  Christ’s humility is best exemplified by Him leaving the riches of heaven to suffer and die for the sins of humanity.  How are willing to humble yourself for the eternal spiritual benefit of others?

Watch the following YouTube video.  Sing along if you want to but use the words of the song either vocally or mentally to think about who Christ is and what He has done for us.

After reading the verses and watching the video remember Christ’s Sacrifice as you approach the Lord in prayer.

  1. Praise God for who He is.
  2. Ask God to forgive us of our sins.
  3. Ask God to help you in a specific area to become more like Christ.
  4. Ask God to bless others.
  5. Thank Christ for the sacrifice He made for us.
