Renew Your Mind so that You Think Like Christ

35 Days Toward PEACE – Week 4 Discipleship (Day 24)

The goal of this devotional is to develop the spiritual disciplines and habits over the next 35 days that will allow the PEACE of Jesus Christ to change our lives for the better.  Is that what you want?  Are you willing to join me in the journey?

As we continue to develop our daily conversation with God we are going to spend this week talking about becoming more like Christ.  The “C” in PEACE is fro the Challenge to be like Christ.  Becoming like Christ is process mediated by the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives.  As we open ourselves up to the God’s work in our lives and the Holy Spirit gains more and more access to the whole of who we are, we change.  We become more like Christ.  A daily part of our process should be evaluating where we are as it come to our “Christ-like-ness.”  How are you doing?  what specific part of you are you trying to change to look more like Him?  Over the next seven days we are going to look at Christ, what it means to be “Christ-like,” look at specific things that need to change in us and focus our prayers around those changes.

Romans 11:33-12:2 (NIV)

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
“Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”
“Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay them?”
For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

As we examine this verse, we come to understand that not only does our attitude need to change, not only does our actions need to change but our thinking needs to change as well.  God’s thoughts are so much higher than our but as we are transformed into Christ our minds will also be renewed and we will begin to be able to grasp the thoughts of God.  His revealed will within the pages of Scripture will become more coherent to us.  As we think on our own we will more frequently catch ourselves pondering the wonderful truths about God.  One of the significant purposes of this 35 day devotional is to train our brains in a way that prayer, worship and Scripture become normative.  What area of your thought life needs to be transformed?  This could mean to stop thinking about something sinful or it could mean to start thinking about something Holy.  For that area of your life that needs to be more Christ-like that you have prayed about for the last two days, is there a change that needs to be made in how you think on the subject?

Watch the following YouTube video from artist Kierra Sheard.  Sing along if you want to but use the words of the song either vocally or mentally to think about who Christ is and what He has done for us.

After reading the verses and watching the video remember Christ’s Sacrifice as you approach the Lord in prayer.

  1. Praise God for who He is.
  2. Ask God to forgive us of our sins.
  3. Continue to ask God to help you in a specific area to become more like Christ.
  4. Ask God to bless others.
  5. Thank God for how He has created with the ability to think and change how we think.
