A Prayer for the Fall Term

Dear Heavenly Father, Lord God Almighty,

You are the maker of heaven and earth, the creator of everything good, the leader of our lives, the lover of our souls, the forgiver of our sins.  You are our guide, comforter, healer, protector and friend.  You are our God, our creator, sustainer, redeemer, convictor, empowerer.  And we ask you to be all of those things for us as we step into this new year.

For some of us, this is our first year at Drexel.  Help it to be a great year.  Help us to transition well into this environment.  Give us the ability to to learn how to learn on a college level quickly.  Give us the ability to navigate the campus, the city, SEPTA, and even the new social landscape efficiently.  Protect us from naive mistakes.  Protect us from foolishness.  Protect us from being drunk with our new found freedom.  Give us great friends.  Friends that we have just met but are committed to seeing us succeed.  Help us to be a great friend as well.  Never let us disqualify ourselves from helping others just because of freshness to the situation.  For some of us continue to be our God even in the transition.  For others help Drexel to be the place where we come face to face with your truth.

For others of us, this is our last year at Drexel.  Help it to be a great year.  Help us to prepare ourselves for the transition out as well as possible.  Help us to utilize our last year at Drexel to its greatest potential.  Help us to have fulfilling social interactions, person building academic challenges, career centered adventures.  Help us to be formed in such a way this year that life after Drexel is a success.   But don’t allow us to be so focused on what is next that we squander the present.  Help us to still intentionally look to communicate your truth with others on our campus.  Help us to still seek your face.  Help us to grow deeper with each day and week and month and term.  May You get the greatest glory possible out of our time here.

And then I pray for the rest of us.  Many of us are some where in between.  Sustain us.  Give us both times of growth and seasons of rest.  Challenge us but also comfort us.   Keep us hopeful.  Never allow the constant pressure of the never ending Drexel schedule to push us beyond hope.  Lord, protect us from evil, the evil in others and the evil within ourselves.  Lord, protect life on our campus.  Help us to reach out to those who are hurting around us.  Give us the ability to be the smile, the kind word, the helping hand, the loving shoulder for those of our friends that need it.  Do not allow us to be overwhelmed by the needs we encounter.  Give us the ability to speak your truth into our world.

Lord, you have proven yourself to be faithful in the past so we trust that you will remain to be faithful to us in this year as well.  We pray all these things in the strong powerful name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the One who defeated death.  Amen.
